New Brunswick History
The City of New Brunswick is the county seat of Middlesex County and the home of Rutgers University. New Brunswick is 27 miles southwest of Manhattan, adjacent to the southern bank of the Raritan River.
Due to the concentration of health care facilities in the area, New Brunswick is known as "the Hub City." The corporate headquarters and production facilities of several global pharmaceutical companies are situated in the city, including Johnson & Johnson and Bristol-Myers Squibb. The growth of the city - and associated traffic/number of vehicles - has resulted in many many orders for car and truck detailing services.
The first natives of New Brunswick were the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlement in New Brunswick was called Prigmore's Swamp (1681–1697), then known as Inian's Ferry (1691–1714). In 1714, the settlement was given the name New Brunswick, after the city of Braunschweig in Germany.
New Brunswick was incorporated as a town in 1736 and chartered as a city in 1784. The Trustees of Queen's College (now Rutgers University), founded in 1766, decided to locate the college in New Brunswick, selecting the city over Hackensack, New Jersey. The Queen's College Grammar School (now Rutgers Preparatory School) was established also in 1766. After Rutgers University became the state university of New Jersey in 1945, the Trustees of Rutgers separated itself of Rutgers Preparatory School.
New Brunswick is located in the Raritan Valley (a line of cities in central New Jersey). New Brunswick is bordered by Piscataway, Highland Park and Edison. Visitors must cross the Raritan River by using the Donald and Morris Goodkind Bridges via the NJ Turnpike or Route 18. New Brunswick is also bordered by North Brunswick Township to the southwest, East Brunswick Township to the southeast, and Franklin Township.
There are several neighborhoods in New Brunswick including: the Fifth Ward, Feaster Park, Lincoln Park, Raritan Gardens, and Edgebrook-Westons Mills. We can provide detailing and oil change services in any of the New Brunswick neighborhoods.
